apache/php security among shared hosts

Security is on everyones mind these days. In a shared hosting environment it's crucial to configure your servers with maximum security, especially when credit card data becomes involved. Many sysadmins leave the default setup on many apache servers, to run php as mod_php and apache as a separate user from root.
