IE8 will be web standards compliant…

Oh Microsoft, your so cutting-edge. It appears that 14 years after the introduction of web standards Microsoft has finally decided to jump aboard. They have decided to add web standards compliance "mode" to Internet Explorer 8. Yeah, that's right a mode. There will be three different modes modes in fact. The first will be web standards compliant mode. Microsoft describes this mode as "forward-looking and preferred by Web designers". Do I even need to make a sarcastic comment here? The second mod.... read more

The Internet Made Me Do It

Don't believe everything you hear on TV, the radio, and the internet. Isn't that something they teach in school. It's amazing how much entitlement some people get from the internet. I read a news clipping recently about a man in southern Oregon who was cleaned out by a bunch of morons wielding printouts of a Craig's List posting. It all began with a Craig's List posting which stated a man in a small town in southern Oregon was moving out of the country and everything on his property (including h.... read more

HP Printers - Not What They Used to Be. Please “RE” Invent Yourself

HP Reinvent Yourself
The very first printer my wife and I purchased was an HP Deskjet 722c. We still have it and it works flawlessly. I've thought about selling it, but that would be like giving away the family pet...just doesn't feel right. After a few years we became a "multiple computer" household with laptops and so purchased an all-in-one by HP. The HP psc 1350 all-in-one was everything we hoped for. Fast printing, easy to use scanner, functional ink cartridges and of course the HP brand. Well times have cha.... read more

Storing images in mysql

Some would say that this is a bad idea, I say it has it's benefits. My preference is to store images in the file system storing the image name/path in the database and allowing apache to serve the image straight from the file system, but the idea of storing images in the database is intriguing. If you would like to venture into the realm of storing images in your sql database, I have a few tips for you. keep images in their own table normalized away from the other data this will keep the size o.... read more

Baselining - Serious Newtonian Consequences

If you haven't heard, a combination sport of both slacklining and BASE-Jumping is making its debut in Moab. So, here's the idea. You stretch a 180 foot rope between a U-shaped canyon rim and balance your way from one side to another. When you fall, your BASE-Jumping chute hopefully saves your life. I first learned of this on nytimes.com. After reading, baselining was not to be found on Google, Wikipedia, youtube - nothing. Will search engines find this article? This is officially an SEO test... .... read more

Conformity

Yesterday I infected my Mac with the worst computer virus known to man... Microsoft Windows! (pause for shrieks of horror) Yeah, you heard me right I installed Parallels and thereafter installed Windows. Honestly it's not that bad, I'm able to beat Windows into submission via the tools included in Parallels. Like when it is using 100% of the cpu I can just press the pause button which locks it into a steel cage until I am ready to play with it again. Alas, I can no longer say, "sorry I can't he.... read more
