Are you going on strike Jan. 18th?

January 18th, 2012 website owners all over the world will be going on strike to oppose legislation against web censorship. Yes - once again the government is trying to get a little piece of control of something they need to keep their sneaky hands out of. I've seen this before.  A "little" regulation with a "few" postive factors turns into control later. Just think of the tax code, EPA and many other ideas that have become bloated over the years. At first glance,  the Bill in the ho... read more!

Google vs. Washington: Outlawing Competitive Advantage

Watching Google's Eric Schmidt testify before the Senate's was like watching a slightly awkward physicist attempting to explain quantum theory to a bunch of gorillas. Utah's own Mike Lee showed that he is worse at understanding the issues involved than Eric Schmidt is at explaining them. Meanwhile, Danny Sullivan nearly had a stroke listening to the Senators grandstanding as trust-busters, all while blatantly requesting favors from Google. For those who aren't familiar with the case, a number o... read more!

Negative Press: Burning Brands and Dollars

Over the last year, the online marketing community has been abuzz with talk about using negative press to boost one's rankings in search engines like Google. It all started with a New York Times story about a man whose horrible customer service skills and illegal actions had supposedly boosted his rankings in the search engines. The general proposition was that links are good for search engine rankings, and making people extremely angry is one way to get them to link to your site. The issue a... read more!

Why Google-Motorola Isn't an Anti-trust Issue

As with any large business acquisition, there is bound to be a high degree of scrutiny when it comes to Google's purchase of Motorola. Generally speaking, the larger the companies are, the more they are scrutinized. The proposed purchase requires approval from anti-trust regulators throughout the world at a time when Google has seen a dramatic surge of regulator conern. Google launched the news addressing regulators' fears right out of the gate: "Our acquisition of Motorola will increase compet... read more!

The Aspiring Filmmaker's Resources to DLSRs

It's a well-known fact that media is a difficult industry to get into.  Aspiring filmmakers can face a myriad of challenges: investing in the right equipment and making the buzz-worthy film to jump-start your career.  But with revolutionary DSLR cameras, the Internet, and great web resources, it's not impossible to break into the industry. Most Clicked Button

Most websites usually have a common thread when it comes to links or buttons on the site. For example typically a website has a logo that is linked to the homepage. This makes me wonder what the collectively most clicked button on the web would be. I have heard that the "skip intro" link on websites with flash intros is one of the most clicked links. This is completely understandable as flash intros drive most sane people nuts. But all sites don't have this link. There has to be a commonality b... read more!

Social Media Comes at a Price - Twitter Over Capacity

I love the "free" services that Facebook, YouTube and Twitter bring to the table...but "free" doesn't mean you don't pay a price. Some companies (including our own) have turned to social media as a real means to market our services. It's a way to extend your brand and informally communicate with an audience. If you depend on communicating with your audience with one of these tools and suddenly it's not there for you - you're out of luck. As I logged into Twitter today after researching some re... read more!

Can Optical Media Survive?

Could the Blu-Ray disk be one of the shortest lived media formats of all time? How much longer will be be using CDs and DVDs? With the recent release of streaming media boxes like Apple TV, Boxee Box and Google TV I have been asking myself these questions. I have already noticed how little I use the optical drive on my laptop. There are a few cases where someone will bring in a DVD with photos or video, but those are few and far between. I would estimate that I insert a disc into my drive maybe... read more!
