Article Spinning is Dangerous

I've said this for some time, but it's great to finally see other experts backing my opinion. If you spin articles in an attempt to fool Google - you'll eventually pay for it. For those of you who don't know what article spinning is I'll offer a simple explanation. Article Spinning is rewriting the same articles to look "unique" by swapping out words with similar words. This is BAD however. Don't do it. Find out if your SEO company engages in this practice and question their methodology. I... read more!

Negative Press: Burning Brands and Dollars

Over the last year, the online marketing community has been abuzz with talk about using negative press to boost one's rankings in search engines like Google. It all started with a New York Times story about a man whose horrible customer service skills and illegal actions had supposedly boosted his rankings in the search engines. The general proposition was that links are good for search engine rankings, and making people extremely angry is one way to get them to link to your site. The issue a... read more!

The Power of Social Media Marketing

I am an admitted geek for indie films, and I have long been a fan of Mark and Michael Polish. Needless to say, when I had the opportunity to screen the latest Polish Brothers' flick a few months ago, I was stoked. An homage to the French New Wave, For Lovers Only profiled two former loves who travel across France, rekindling their romance right where they'd left off years earlier. But that isn't what this post is about; as I've stated in several previous posts, I am a big fan of social media m... read more!

Teasing Visitor Traffic to Come Back

Although I'm a PC guy - I do love the way Apple brands and markets themselves. You may have noticed recently a campaign that "teased" users into coming back to their home page. They sent out an email to many in their user base. When you arrived on the home page you saw this: "Tomorrow is just another day. that you'll never forget.  Check back here tomorrow for an exciting announcement from iTunes." There were clocks with some of the major time zones at the bottom of the message detecti... read more!

Social Media Comes at a Price - Twitter Over Capacity

I love the "free" services that Facebook, YouTube and Twitter bring to the table...but "free" doesn't mean you don't pay a price. Some companies (including our own) have turned to social media as a real means to market our services. It's a way to extend your brand and informally communicate with an audience. If you depend on communicating with your audience with one of these tools and suddenly it's not there for you - you're out of luck. As I logged into Twitter today after researching some re... read more!
