Thoughts From The Founder Stephon Carradine

As I enthusiastically welcome the national introduction of our site, I am frequently reminded and often reflect on the idea that has become BlackRealEstate.com.

As African Americans we have the unique perspective of being both part of mainstream America and yet very much a minority within America. As members of the mainstream we are not dissimilar too any other mainstream American. We have the ability to pursue any goal, dream or aspiration our heart, desire and resources allow.  Often, we are able to pursue goals and dreams other minorities have yet pursued.

Over the past fifty years those goals, dreams and aspirations have propelled us to heights our ancestors could not have imagined. Or maybe they could have.

Yet, as minorities in America, ones without a language difference, or an obvious cultural difference, our minority perspective and consequently our unique needs as minorities are often over looked, or at the very least, minimized by mainstream America.

What is most confusing and I must admit frustrating, is that often even the great equalizer of them all, Corporate America demonstrates a lack of understanding on this issue. There is no place where the lack of appreciation for the African American position is more evident then in the residential real estate industry.

As the owner of a major real estate franchise, my company is the beneficiary of a tremendous array of marketing and advertising resources designed specifically for the Latino community. There seems to be no end to the amount of time and capital major players in the real estate game are willing to commit to the emerging and powerful Latino real estate consumer.

Given that my company is located in a market that is both heavily African American and Latino, I greatly appreciate these resources. These world class marketing tools allow my company to extend its reach and cater directly to the Latino community. Most importantly, these tools heighten the Latino community’s awareness and clearly indicate that we are interested in earning their business.

When it comes to searching for marketing and advertising tools designed solely for the African American real estate consumer, the search is extremely short. Although African Americans spend more than 125 billion dollars annually on real estate and related services, the residential real estate powers to be appear unwilling to allocate capital in a fashion that specifically targets the African American consumer.

This unwillingness existed more than ten years ago when the initial idea of BlackRealEstate.com was developed, and it exists today. What mainstream America does not understand is that African Americans possess cultural differences, just as any other minority group does. Although those differences aren’t has great as other groups, they do exist.

BlackRealEstate.com and its network of real estate professionals is designed to address these cultural differences.  Our goal is to ensure African American real estate consumers have access to information and individuals who understand, appreciate and respect their perspective.

With BlackRealEstate.com African Americans now have a resource dedicated to fulfilling their unique needs. This new resource will undoubtedly increase the African American real estate consumer’s awareness, motivation and ability to participate in the real estate game.

It is my sincere desire to bring the best real estate has to offer to the African American community. Although African Americans comprise less than five percent of all real estate agents in the country, we can still have a major impact and provide a tremendous service to those who greatly need our help.
