503 valid RCPT command must precede DATA

Email can be a beast. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason for email to suddenly stop working.

Such was the case recently for a client after having several successful emails sent received all morning - email abruptly stopped working. Sending to people from within the company was working, receiving email was working, but sending to other individuals outside their network was causing 503 errors.

After Googling around for a few minutes we found a couple of solutions:

1. Check for new
email before trying to send. This adds your
IP to a relay hosts file and allows
email to be sent for a 30 minute interval.

2. Configure your email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, OE) to authenticate
by itself by checking "my server requires
authentication" in config settings.
You will now be able to send w/out "poping" your mail box first.
