Windows 10 is coming for you!

Screen Shot 2015-07-28 at 12.02.29 PM.pngWindows 10 has arrived! Well sort of.. they have begun sending out notices to the individuals who qualify for a free upgrade. What was that? Yes not everyone will qualify for the new operating system and will instead have to pay either the $119 for the home edition or $199 for the Pro operating edition. Only those who are currently using Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows Phone 8.1 will get the free upgrade to this brand spanking new Microsoft operating system. But there is a "but" to this conversation, because the operating system will only be free for 10 years which means Microsoft will be ending mainstream support for users in 2020 and extended support in 2025.

Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be the last operating system that will be launched. This statement initially freaked out a lot of users of the Windows operating systems but Microsoft calmed the crowd by following up their statement with that they plan to only make minor updates every so often to the existing operating system, which will be Windows 10. Sound familiar? Yes it sounds like the Apple strategy of making minor upgrades and changes to their already established iOS operating system. Could Microsoft be taking cues from Apple? ... maybe, but I wouldn't go far to assume and step on toes.

One thing that separates Microsoft from Apple is that the operating system will not be free forever. Becoming a part of the Windows Insider Program is the cheaper way around paying for the operating system. I wouldn't recommend this though because you would become Microsoft's guinea pig running around on your wheel in their testing laboratory. You would be the tester for all the future updates which has the potential to be unstable and could seriously affect your computer's performance. So in other words, if you are a casual user, the Insider Program is not for you.

The official launch date for Windows 10 is tomorrow morning, 10am ET. Window's Insiders will get it first and those who have a reserved copy will get it in waves. So it coming for you regardless if you want to pay for it or not.
