IE8 will be web standards compliant…

Oh Microsoft, your so cutting-edge.

It appears that 14 years after the introduction of web standards Microsoft has finally decided to jump aboard. They have decided to add web standards compliance "mode" to Internet Explorer 8. Yeah, that's right a mode. There will be three different modes modes in fact. The first will be web standards compliant mode. Microsoft describes this mode as "forward-looking and preferred by Web designers". Do I even need to make a sarcastic comment here? The second mode, which is also the default mode, renders content the same as IE7. The third mode will be based on rendering methods dating back to the early web. Alright!!!! Just what I've always wanted. A browser capable of displaying a website as it would have looked in 1996. Yippee!!

Basically IE8 will be a copy of IE7 out of the box. Where do the Microsoft developers find the time to create all these awesome features?

For a good laugh check out Microsoft's press release here.

If your a little right of center you can download the IE8 Beta.
