Should I “Click Here”

The phrase "Click Here" has become a common link phrase on many websites. In recent years the use of this phrase has become a topic of debate among web designers. I have met many designers who are fans of using the phase, and others who wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Some designers argue that "Click Here" has higher conversion rates. The argument on the other side is in favor of descriptive text for better search engine placement and website accessibility. Personally, I lean toward the use of descriptive text. When the text is descriptive you are not forcing your readers to read the surrounding text to determine where the link will take them. This allows the user to quickly navigate the site for the specific information they are looking for.
