Coding by Hand or WYSIWYG?

This is a question that many new web designers are faced with. Should I code a site by hand or with a WYSIWYG editor? Most new web designers start with some form of WYSIWYG. Usually this is due to lack of knowledge as far as syntax goes. This is not a bad thing, but I believe it is important to quickly transition to coding sites by hand.

The primary reason for coding a site by hand is control over the code and how the design is presented. WYSIWYG is an acronym for "What You See Is What You Get". This means you are stuck with whatever the editor gives you. Another reason for coding by hand is clean code. Most WYSIWYG editors bloat code. Good clean code means faster loading pages and easier maintenance.

At LunaWebs we code all our sites to exacting precision by hand. This allows us to create the highest quality, validated xhtml and css code.
